Get on with it

Right, let's get on with this, I want to get back to making all the games I am 100% going to make... Please press Start to continue.

Who am I?

I'm a solo game developer. Been doing this on and off for longer than I care to admit and now I want to take it a bit more seriously. Don't get me wrong, this is still firmly in the realm of hobby, got one of those full time job things hanging off me like a poorly severed limb. You never know though, maybe one of the games I make will be big enough that I can hack the thing off permanently and do this full time.

Also, you didn't need to press Start, you can just scroll down.

The story so far

I found out you could make your own games way back when we got an Atari ST for Christmas and it came with STOS Basic. Never actually made anything with it, in fact I think I accidentally formatted the disk, but that was the seed sown.

Since then I've messed around with various languages and engines like Blitz Basic and some other Game Maker like thing that I can't remember the name of... Made a couple of little games, one day I might try and get them running and uploaded just for nostalgia sake.

Finally settled into Unity and made my first actual game: Shoot the Things. A fairly simple endless vertical shooter, turned out to be pretty fun though so I'm going to polish it up and make an actual release out of it. Watch this space.

The only other thing I've made beyond the usual graveyard of barely started projects is Life's a Chore for the GTMK Game Jam 2020. Again this turned out to be a lot of fun so will be coming back to it soon...

What's next?

I want to use this blog to track game development progress, talk about what I'm doing, what I've learned, and anything else that takes my fancy really.

As for actual development, I'm going to work on some improvement to Shoot the Things. It's perfectly playable in it's current state, but there's not much there, I want to change that.
